Armoury services for film & TV
Discuss production armoury support with working film and television armourers, from early preparation to the shoot.
Bring armoury into the conversation early.
The script, proposed equipment, locations, cast and schedule all affect the support a production needs. We discuss that brief before agreeing scope, personnel and responsibilities. Early contact gives the production time to plan the right arrangements and bring the relevant departments together.
What does a film armourer do?
A film armourer is a specialist responsible for the agreed firearms work on a production. The role involves advising on suitable arrangements and supervising the firearms activity within that scope. It is distinct from coaching a performance, although the work needs close coordination. A training course does not replace a production armourer.
Relevant production roles.
Dark Roc’s team credits include armoury on Run Away and The Way for Ty Hopkins and Redd Nicholson, Missing You for Redd, and Take Cover for Ty. These are individual credits, with roles identified on our credits page. We discuss the people and capabilities required for your production rather than assuming one arrangement fits every shoot.
Responsibilities agreed for the production.
Armoury, tactical advice, stunt coordination and production management have different responsibilities. The production must appoint competent people and agree those responsibilities. Any required permissions and authorisations depend on the equipment and proposed work; a biography or training certificate is not a substitute. See the HSE guidance on firearms in film and television and our production preparation guide.
